Today I met a new friend, a solicitor

She told me her name

I felt comfortable straight away

She took me and my little girl to a café

Bought us toast and tea

I think she guessed that we were starving

After some weeks, a letter arrived

It said, ‘your appeal has been successful’

And ‘you are entitled to Section 4 support’

I jumped up and down like a mad woman

I sat and talked to my little girl

Who was just three months old at that time

But my little one was fast asleep

Meanwhile I was talking to myself

Overjoyed with relief that we can eat

For now

Shame on the Home Office

Who think that female asylum seekers

Are not entitled to accommodation or happiness
